The first BMW 5 Series automobile manufactured was the BMW E12. It consisted of the following models:

-E28

The second automobile in the BMW 5 Series was the BMW E28. It represented a stylistic evolution of the E12. The shape of the car was more box like.

-E34

The third generation of the BMW 5 Series won awards for both reliability and safety. The E34 was considered to be one of the nicest cars of its era.

-E39

The E39 was one of the most successful automobiles in BMW history. It boasted several different models, including the following:

1996–2000 520i - 2.0 L M52B20 I6, 150 hp (110 kW)
2000–2003 520i - 2.2 L M52B20 I6, 170 hp (127 kW)
1996–2000 523i - 2.5 L M52B25 I6, 170 hp (143 kW)

-E60

The E60 represents the current 5 Series of BMW cars.
